A Lil’ Bootlegging in Speakeasy City

September 26, 2026 1 Comment

By Russ Lockwood

Wheelman Wally ran a finger over the front fender. “Nice car you got here.”

“1928 Ford Model A Extra Special,” Bootlegger Bob replied. “Interested in driving? No questions asked?”

“Yeah,” Wally said, calculating costs. “Pity if something happened to it.”

“Whaddaya mean?”

“Tires might get flat. Can’t move the moonshine,” Wally explained. “Brakes might fail. Then a crash loses the car and cargo.”

Bob was wise to shakedowns. “How much?”

“G-note a trip.”

“Talk about highway robbery,” Bob mumbled. “Deal. If it remains a G-note a trip.”

“How’s that?”

Bootlegger Bob shrugged. “Pity if a slippery sidewalk caused two broken kneecaps.”
