Abracadabra

Abracadabra

By Prospero Dae

With one Abracadabra, the rabbit was pulled out of a black-as-a-moonless-night hat, by his ears no less! Now, the bunny was smart. He knew the trick, having performed it flawlessly ever since he was hired last week. He was a union supporter and liked the benefits (plentiful carrots, a harem of bunny playthings). As a Trotskyist, he always felt that Orwell never gave bunnies their due. And so, one night after being indecorously pulled from the oh-so-roomy hat, Napoleon (oh, how this Orwell thing irked him) was in the spotlight. He cleared his throat, and began: “All bunnies are equal, but…”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose…. a brilliant vignette. It doesn’t matter, does it, whether it’s bunnies or pigs.

Sue says it begs for a book, but I hope you’ll adapt it to the stage. If so, I would like to play the part of Muriel, the wise old goat, since she’s one of the few animals who can read.

A very learned bunny although he could use some enlightenment regarding female bunny liberation. A most humorous story, Prospero.

Speaking of mansions, our society is so easy to satirize, I could hardly resist this one.

Cynthia, I’m envisioning this as more of a ballet. Muriel in a tutu works for me.

The tutu sounds fine, but if memory serves me (and it still does, after–lo!–these many years), the pink pointe shoes could present a problem. I remind you that goats have cloven hooves…..

I love this. This begs for a book. I’m still chuckling envisioning this bunny. Great.

As a book it’s gonna be pretty hard to top Animal Farm!

Ode to the rabbits – this was one about to get his or was he? Nice one Propsero – where will it go from here.

Where will it go from here? Anarcho-capitalism?

Nice piece Prospero! Maybe Napoleon could head for Watership Down if his spotlight fades – although, if memory serves, his role may have already been usurped there! 🙂
