I found a hand in the woods yesterday. All the skin was gone. It was just sticking up out of the dirt, bones still together. I literally tripped over the thing when I went into the bushes, just off the trail, to pee.
I stared at it for a long time. I couldn’t bring myself to touch it. Kind of wanted to though.
Questions keep popping into my head. Has anyone else seen this? How did they walk away? Did they convince themselves it wasn’t real?
Mostly, I wonder if he was still alive while I was filling up the hole.
