By Robert Balentine, Jr.
I warn the boys, but they’re relentless—full of youthful bravado and the safety of superior numbers.
As I expected, they ignore my warning and call me a fag. Chairs scuffle, fists fly, a bottle breaks. It’s over in three minutes—a new record, I note.
My husband steps over the crumpled bodies of three battered bigots. His bruised knuckles flare as he takes hold of his beer glass. He winks and my cheeks flush red.
“A boy named Sue ain’t got nothing on a fairy from Fordyce, Arkansas,” he says, and I fall in love with him all over again.
This is wonderful. So original, so different and very surprising. After reading the title, not what I was expecting at all!
A feel-good story, nicely phrased.
What a gorgeous story! I love the ending.

Well done Robert! Delightfully vindictive 😉
