Finding Jesus

I found Jesus today. I was walking by a Catholic gifts and bookstore and stopped to look in the window. There, nestled in the middle of the dusty old volumes, crucifixes, and statues of the saints and all the Marys was a tiny, plastic baby Jesus, swaddled in a gift ribbon and glued to some bits of straw in a walnut shell. I said the words in my head, “It’s Jesus in a nutshell.” I stared at it for a while, reflecting, waiting for a hallelujah. Then I thought, bitterly, “If only it were that easy.” I turned and walked away.

Pitch-perfect tone, humor, and irreverence in a nutshell. Pllombard, I loved it.
