Flash Fiction chosen by Jim Landwehr
“Song for a 51 Year Old Bar Fly” by Jon Beight via Story Shack
This had all the elements of a routine bar-fly pick-up/hook up scenario. Until the wild ending.
“Revelations of a Half Man” by Spencer Folkins via Maudlin House
This one is all over the map and that is why I absolutely love it—the way it ambles in and out of consciousness. Maybe not for everyone, but I can’t get enough of it.
“Backlash” by Eliza McGowen via Spelk
This captures a boy’s feelings of inadequacy around his father quite succinctly. I love the shocking finality of the last sentence.
“Surge and Recede” by Remy Barnes via SmokeLong Quarterly
I liked the dialog play between the husband and wife in this story. That and the description, ‘The plane was a two-seater, like a john boat on the water and the wind an angry ocean.’ Perfection.
