Flat Earth Theory

January 5, 2025 5 Comments

By W.F. Jungerman

The boat rocked, teetering between tipping over and staying afloat. Whoops and shouts echoed in his ears. His attention was caught in a dance of sound, stuck halfway between their glee and his terror.

He clutched the side of the boat, his knuckles white, gaze pinned to the skyline. Laughter boomed. A second passed. The horizon crept closer. His grip turned from comforting to searing. Though he tried, he couldn’t release his hands. He could see where the sky met the ocean and imagined the waves falling over the precipice, plummeting into infinity, taking him into the eternity below. Gone forever.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Woah! I love how with so few words you have pulled me into a story that is so much bigger. It pulls me to imagine what came before, and who this person is.

I have to say that I didn’t get this on the first reading. I thought about it and reread the title and it all made sense. What a very intriguing story.

Very gripping read and thought provoking. A person can be so alone and frightened even when surrounded by others. Fear of the unknown can be paralyzing.

Love that human emotion and behavior is the same in an alternate reality.
