Ghosted: A Love Story

January 14, 2025 6 Comments

By Moira Richardson

So I’ve been haunting this girl for three weeks. I swirl fingertip poetry on the steamed bathroom mirror while she showers. She only stares at her reflection, never seeing me floating behind her.

One night, I bang open her kitchen cabinets. Flour tumbles in a white puff, illuminating my formlessness, momentarily. Look at me! She only sighs and sweeps the floor. She blames the cat.

While she’s sleeping, I stroke her cheek gently. She murmurs sweet nothings, cuddling the pillow closer, but doesn’t wake. Lovesick, I howl my frustrations, transcending realms. She blames the wind.

When will she notice my affections?

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I like the imagery….the bathroom mirror, the tumblers.
Looks like this world cannot be reached so the ghost is stuck in a place of perpetual longing, like so many people.
