The hula girl on the dashboard stopped dancing when you fixed the suspension. Speed bumps used to make her happy. Potholes made her giddy enough to sway her hips. Now all she does is tremble like a leaf.
I flicked her head to see if she’d dance.
“Don’t,” you said.
“Why not? It makes her happy.”
“Would you be happy if a giant punched you in the head with their finger?”
“Dancing makes her happy,” I clarified.
The next time I got in the car, she was gone. I found her stuck to my bike’s stem yesterday.
She’s much happier now.
