I Only Have Eyes For…

February 5, 2025 14 Comments

By Anne Wilkins

Our tenth wedding anniversary.

We’re seated at a table for four: me, my husband, and our phones.

Muted lighting.

Ambient music.

Glass of wine.

Eyes meet.

Our phones pulse, craving attention, and our eyes disconnect.

He checks his, and I check mine.

Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Bluesky, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, X, email, Gmail, text messages, Messenger, Discord, WhatsApp: I have them all, and so does he.

Minutes pass.

Time to smile.

We take a selfie.

So happy to be with this one, I tell my phone, as I write the caption.

My phone edges closer to me.

The attraction is undeniable.

No wasted words. Captured the scene so well. Sadly a common scene.
