Mum was happy to grant six-year-old Donna’s wish for an astronaut Barbie. Donna flashed her biggest smile, one tooth missing. Four years on, it was harder for Mum to find the album Donna wanted, but she did. Donna rewarded her with hugs. But Mum had to say no to Donna at age fourteen. She couldn’t afford the game console.

That was the beginning of the divide between them. It soon became a deep unbridgeable crevice. Mum had the door slammed on her face several times.

Mum smiled: this would not last long. Her daughter would be in her place one day.

Yes. This sums it up neatly. Well-written and interesting.

If mum is lucky! Donna will find her own place, but mum shouldn’t count on the extension of a “cold shoulder” if she continues to denial of Donna’s wants and wishes.
