By Dante A Murray
Mae had a large X where her left breast once was, like someone had marked a pirates’ map indicating where gold was buried. When we made love Mae worried the X would disgust me. She told me so and we both cried.
She bought snow globes when she learned of more bad news. When you shook her favorite snow globe—a man and women eating dinner by candlelight—it played ‘I Only Have Eyes for You.’
Each night I sit in my chair, snow globe in hand, and shake it like hell.
Mae is always there, sitting across from me, smiling.
A beautiful little story of lasting love and loyalty. Loved it!
Beautifully written as you felt sad for Mae straight away and then felt the loss of the one she left behind.
Great story.
