“Who are you running from?” she asked, her silent thought turning into an audible question. Lights blurred past as she gazed ahead in anticipation. It was a moment before he answered.
“Not from,” he looked at her with tingling intensity, “with.”
“What?” She turned her head towards him, brows creased.
Eyes back on the road, he heaved an involuntary sigh. “Nothing,” he murmured, shaking his head.
And there was silence, once more.
