I was late for my graveyard shift at the diner. Again.
I’d been too tired to turn my car around last night, so when I came out of Kevin’s apartment I hastily backed out of the long dark alley. My backup lights didn’t cut it and I felt the thump, heard the cat howl when it got snagged by one of my rear wheels.
Not a good way for either of us to start our day.
Even worse, it was Martha, Kevin’s cat. Looked like just a busted leg.
She limped away, down the alley, then upstairs to recuperate.
Next time…
What a brilliant ending. Just two words to turn the whole story round. Classic flash fiction.
Regret? Change? Sad. Thank you!
Good end. Leaving us guessing about next time. I’m a cat lover!!!!!
