I waited until after she died to finish our last conversation. On all hallows night, I laid out white and black candles. I lit the circle of candles and waited like King Saul for her ghost to appear.
“What is so urgent? Why have you mediumed me?”
“Is it possible you can tell me where the sugar is? My coffee’s been unbearable without it.”
Her ghost instantly turned a devilish shade of scarlet. She wanted to curse me out, but remembering her halo, she just puffed away back to her afterlife.
I snuffed out the candles and smiled.
“Still got it.”
