Playing Catch

April 17, 2023 13 Comments

By Greg Nooney

“I promise we’ll play catch tomorrow,” his father said on the phone. The boy remembered three things his father taught him. ‘Early to bed, early to rise’ was one, so he woke early, grabbed his baseball, mitt and favorite cap, and waited by the curb. Again and again, he threw his baseball up as high as he could, caught it, and waited. When dinner time came, something shifted in his gut and the back of his throat, and the boy realized he could follow the second thing, ‘Never give up,’ or the third, ‘Be careful whom you trust,’ but not both.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

    Greg, great job! ?
Sadly, it’s true in many families in today’s world.
Life is short. I wish everyone could remember that & enjoy the moments. Kids grow up so fast, plus they never forget those moments, especially the painful ones.
