Ralph Offends the Fountain of David

September 13, 2026 6 Comments

By Lisa H. Owens

Weird night, Ralph thinks. It adds up. Full moon. His night watchman’s superior sixth sense.

Ralph creeps downhill to the koi pond, luminous in the light of the harvest moon.

The fish, transformed into golden-scaled wyrmlings, arise to encircle the Fountain of David, eternally poised to slay the giant.

Then they dance.

Shimmying on spiny tails, their wings whip up a tsunami.

David stirs. Yawns and rotates his head. His eyes, void of light, spot Ralph, studying—judging—the stream flowing from his underrepresented genitalia.

“Nice fountain.” Ralph snickers. A stone is launched from David’s sling, nailing Ralph between the eyes.

There is a life lesson here.
Plus, David’s aim was always deadly accurate.

I will never perceive a story with a Christian reference but I have had it read three times.

I am glad you enjoyed this little piece enough to read it three times, Ranabrata. This is just my whimsical and humorous take on a garden fountain!
