Although Chris didn’t want to tear himself away from the party, the doorbell was insistent. He opened the door.
“Look! Santa!” Chris hadn’t invited a Santa—but here he was, jolly and round-bellied.
“Merry Christmas!” Santa bellowed predictably. All the kids charged his knees.
Everyone lined up to sit on Santa’s lap. Chris puzzled to himself… who was this? After an hour, Chris followed Santa outside.
“Thanks for coming. But, uh, who are you?” Chris asked.
Santa took off his beard. He was a complete stranger, clean shaven and suddenly cheerless.
“You don’t know me.” He leered. “Thanks for the party.”
A rather bizarre little tale, expertly told. I hope Santa enjoyed the party.
Loved it. Naughty Santa!
Liked your story. This is one of those stories that is good at its size, but begs for more.
I think Santa was actually an angel, doing good with no hope of reward, except for possibly an Xmas cookie and punch — but not a punch to his solar plexus from the part’s host.
