Civil War 2026 loudly commenced citywide. Rob knew it was time to initiate the survival strategy he’d been honing for six years. He entered the bunker he’d built, inspired by the 2020 pandemic. Seeing the mass hysteria—he knew he had to look after himself. He’d stashed an abundance of canned goods, torches, a radio, batteries, flares, weapons, and ammunition. Unable to exit, possibly for months, he’d be safe here. On his first night, he chose baked beans for dinner. Panic crept in as he rummaged for a tin opener, and realisation dawned. Apparently, he wasn’t as prepared as he thought.
Survival Plan

Nice…enjoyed reading. Apparently, we are never prepared as well as we think..:)
Thanks Yogita, glad you liked it!
Ah. If you have enough time you can figure out how to open a tin without a tin opener…or can you? Good story which made light of the coming civil war. I think we are all going to need a sense of humour or humor!
Nice! Congrats!
Thanks so much Scott.
He probably doesn’t have a corkscrew for his wine, either!
now THAT would be a disaster, Sheri 🙂
I felt for him. It’s going to be a long war.
It’s so common to overlook the small details. Thanks for the reminder.
Oh no! An ode to those of us who’ve found themselves in a similar situation!
I really appreciate this piece. For some reason, it reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where a man, an avid reader who is always interrupted, survives an apocalypse only to break his glasses. Well done!
Thanks so much for your kind comment Kristie. I’ll have to look up that episode.
“Survival” indeed! Nicely done.
And of course he did remember the toilet paper didn’t he? 😉
Oops! Its the little things that count!
a well-delivered piece, one i thought more about the second day after reading. well done!
