When I was ten, my sister ran away. At school, I met Melissa and her best friend Ethel. Ethel hated me.
When I was eleven, my sister came home. Ethel fell off the swing and went to the hospital; Melissa and I became best friends.
When I was twelve, Dad beat my sister for smoking. We moved away and Melissa sent me a BFF bracelet. My dad bought a car Mom said we couldn’t afford.
When I was thirteen, Melissa found a new best friend. We went to visit my sister in the psychiatric ward. Mom collapsed; Dad just kept walking.
Great story, Becca.
I would have preferred to hear way less about Melissa and Ethel and more about the family, particularly the Dad.
Missing just enough to make it interesting
Missing just too much to make sense …
Food job portraying a dysfunctional family unit.
Very intriguing, Becca. The reactions are also interesting. You incite imagination.
Free like a soaring eagle, but skeleton limbs thick enough to return to. Imaginative writing.
