The Colour Game

September 20, 2026 1 Comment

By Senay Tash

I seek out the colours of the rainbow when nervous. Red is first, and the easiest; it’s an aspect of my life. But now, driving down the empty countryside, there wasn’t a drop of the colour. I picked at my skin until crimson emerged from my flesh.

Red.

A lonely cone by the road. Orange.

The sun—yellow.

The grass: green.

The sky, blue.

And violet…violet was tricky.

A house rose in the distance. I took a deep breath as Ray parked by the road

“Ready?” he asked.

I lifted the shotgun and aimed at the building’s purple walls.

“Always.”
