Captain William Aleyn thought this a strange destination after a successful run of piracy in the Thames. Successful until a vicious easterly had hit the ship and driven it through the English Channel and into the Atlantic Ocean.
After weeks driven west by that unholy wind, he now listened to a growing roar ahead as the clinging fog turned into water droplets.
Suddenly, he understood. He turned to his first mate.
“They were wrong. The world isn’t round. This is the edge of it.”
It was the year of our Lord 1448, and mere yards ahead, the great waterfall awaited them.
