The King’s Coat

December 25, 2015 5 Comments

The King’s Coat

By Christina Butcher

I am no one if I’m not King of the Birds. But ever since the colors seeped from my feathers long ago, I’ve known that I am no true king after all.

The night it happened, I watched my crown blanch and my maize-colored wings fade into chalky greys. Pigment dripped onto the branches beneath me.

In panic, I gathered my flock and we hurled ourselves into the fog. But the birds couldn’t follow my colorless form. I melded into the mist, losing my beginning and end. I was only a voice, separated from flock and hue. I became no one.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

A truly symbolic “Riches to rags” story. A vivid telling of an individual’s spiral down into a self-made oblivion. Great work.
