The Recipe Club

The Recipe Club

By Angie Brocker

Digging the hole deeper than necessary, I still had no regrets about volunteering to bury the body. Smaller-framed females are always appreciated—this one was tiny but strong. Although I was exhausted from a difficult catch, every ounce of my body felt rejuvenated with each shovel full of fresh, cool dirt.

My husband should have known his indiscretions wouldn’t remain unnoticed or go unpunished. He has been married to me for fifteen years, after all. Too bad he didn’t realize my bi-monthly recipe club was actually a Kill Club. Normally the person choosing doesn’t participate, but, this time, I couldn’t resist.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I like this story. I wish there was more of it. The first paragraph captivates the reader.

Ah, revenge is sweet. I only wish that, in line with the title, the kill club didn’t just kill the women but also served them up at supper to the straying husbands. if I read the story correctly which I’m not totally sure of.
