Memories flowed like the dark, murky water beneath the bridge. For years I stood here, watching debris loosen and drift toward the sea, willing the wreckage in my mind to follow. It didn’t. Not then. Not yet. Until now.
New beginnings, a life I never believed I would deserve.
I snapped the padlock firmly onto my door, as if I could lock the past inside.
Now I’m back—no longer alone. I shiver in the sunshine. A small, warm hand finds mine, and the shiver eases.
I didn’t just lock the past away.
I came to give the river the key.
