The Singing Stars

September 17, 2026 Leave a Comment

By Ian Douglas Robertson

A clothed man walked into the desert in search of the meaning of life. In a hollow, he met a semi-naked old man squatting in the shade of an oasis. The old man welcomed him to his paradise and bade him sit beside him. They sat together, with only their humanity in common, communicating in signs. Neither, it seemed, had anywhere important to go. Night came, and the naked man looked up at the sky and held a hand to his ear as if to say, Can you hear the stars singing? The clothed man nodded mournfully, indicating he could not.
