This Is the End

“Betty! Come back, Betty! You know I’m the best fuck you ever had!” Christopher yells, unprompted.

He and Mitch and I have been stumbling through the Seattle Center fair grounds this warm Saturday night the week before graduation.

Betty is Christopher’s mom.

Christopher and Mitch get high as often as a warped record skips, but tonight marks the first time I’ve smoked weed and it’s inducing the Paradox Effect: I’m nauseous.

“Dude, what IS this Oedipal nonsense?” I ask.

“I’m not Oedipus—I’m Jim Morrison!”

“Yeah, I’m going home,” I say.

He tries to kiss me and I throw up tacos.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

So much going on. Don’t know if younger people will get it, but I certainly did.
Well done, and shocking as the Doors.
