Three Words

I’ve wanted to say these three words to this person for a lifetime. I see her every day. Our eyes meet in the glass of the store windows as we walk to work. We pretend to examine the products on display.

Every time I see her, these words spring to mind immediately like sparks that, with a bit of breath, will catch into flame. Today is the day, so I stride up to her. Eyes identical to mine gaze back at me.

“You are beautiful.” My breath mists over the window. My reflection smiles, obviously pleased that I finally said it.
