Together They Fell

October 26, 2024 4 Comments

By Peter Rehn

Their plane shudders on the approach. Engines roaring, wings shaking.

A battle zone’s visible through the windows. Explosions penetrate the darkness, illuminating the cabin, deafening the engines.

Mercenaries on an assignment to help resolve a conflict, trained and armed to their teeth. Called to duty, big men to be taken down, peace to be restored, greed to be quelled. Together, whatever lay in store—one for all, all for one.

The final descent, almost there. Battle cries, everyone ready for action.

A loud bang ends their mission. Explosion. Fire. Unrecognizable remnants rain to the ground.

The missile has found its target.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Beautiful piece. Thematically mirroring both past and current armed conflicts.
