Tracy Takes Her New Boyfriend to Her Cousin’s Wedding

August 5, 2024 11 Comments

By Rita Riebel Mitchell

“That’s Aunt Bea, my mother’s sister,” Tracy explained as Brian squeezed her knee under the table. She kissed his cheek and pointed. “The redhead is Uncle Jeff’s first wife, Sandy. She’s still considered family.”

The DJ called revelers to the dance floor. Tracy shouted over the music, continuing to point out family members. She waved to one of the bridesmaids, a high-school classmate, who squealed and ran to her, a diamond flashing on her left hand. They hugged. Tracy nodded toward Brian. “Mia, may I introduce…”

“Brian?” Mia scowled with clenched fists. “I thought you were at a conference in Denver.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
