I’m sixteen. I’m irresponsible and excited and a mess. I drink to get drunk and I throw up and say I’m not going to do that again but I’m only going to do that again. Life is extremes. I’m going to sleep in and waste a day and fail a paper or a whole bloody class. I’m going to fall in love with a boy after five seconds and he’s going to break my heart. I’m a product of the world you created, so choke on it. I’m a walking contradiction and I know you wish you were a teenager again.
Sounds very authentic 16ish, but no I do NOT wish to be a teenager again. Probably this character would want to get through this horrible period fast, too, if only she could.
Captures the wild brew of teen arrogance and fragility very well.
A true voice, this one.
A wonderful, delightful (and a whole bunch of other superlatives) little story. Kinda makes me glad I’m NOT a teenager again!
