A Car Ride

A Car Ride

By Kirtan Savith Kumar

“How was your first day, hon?”

Mum’s on her phone again, texting Michael. When I shut the car door, she begins weaving through the carpark, amidst the honks and yells of other parents.

“Fine,” I mumble, scanning the road for her as she manoeuvres Michael’s Jaguar back home.

Mum sighs, one hand tapping at her phone, the other on the wheel. “I know moving to Philly’s daunting, but…”

I look at her expectantly, but she continues texting Michael, her smiles his alone.

Silence washes over us, drowns us. And I do what I’ve done for the past six years.

Absolutely nothing.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I like the under-story. Says a lot without saying it.

The unnoticed, the unheard. Sounds like mc has stopped caring.
