“Whatcha scared of, Ralph? You’re shaking.”
“Squirrels, Rex. Can’t you smell them?”
“We chase squirrels. They’re afraid of us!”
“It also smells of that place. You know, where they do ‘spearmints’ on animals. Something got out, and it’s in the woods.”
A deep-throated chittering came from the direction of the trees. It made the hair on Ralph’s and Rex’s backs stand up. Out of the woods, slowly, deliberately, stalked a huge squirrel, much, much larger than the dogs. Its tail swishing, fangs drooling, the monstrous creature lunged forward.
“Son of a bitch, Ralph!” Rex barked. “Let’s get the crap outta here!”
Creepy and fun!! Love it!
Very imaginative, unique. I like that this tale is told through the dogs’ dialogue. Well done!
