I was rubbing an old oil lamp when a genie appeared.
“Three wishes,” yawned the sleepy genie, wisps of smoke wafting from his ancient clothing.
“Health and riches,” I said.
“And your third wish?”
“Hmm. I’ll have to think about that one.”
“Well, I haven’t got all day.”
Considering that the genie had been trapped inside the lamp for many hundreds of years, I laughed at the absurdity of what he had just said. The genie, also seeing the joke, giggled, too. “I’m not used to this freedom lark. Go on then, I’ll throw in eternal life as your third one.”
Deliciously humorous. Loved it!
Thank you so much, Bobby.
Nce story, David, but I imagine eternal life would be Hell!!
You’re probably right but thanks for liking the story. . 😉
I knew it. A literary Genie too! A touch of E.B. White going on. Doesn’t get any better than that. Great!
Thank you, Ita. I’m flattered,
