A Look Into the Future

June 12, 2025 6 Comments

By Charles Gray

“Sir, I had the scientists analyze the data from Orb1.”

“And?”

I hand him the photo. “Well, we found it, sir.”

“What?”

“It’s a snapshot of the traffic at an intersection on Main Street near your home.”

“And?”

“It’s the moment you will die, sir.”

“How?”

“That’s your black Subaru driving north.”

“Uh-huh.”

“The white car on your right will enter the intersection at high speed and smash into you. You will suffer a fatal head injury.”

“When?”

“This will take place in seventy-six hours, sir.”

“Where was I going?”

“Paesano Pizza Palace, sir.”

“Well, remind me to have them deliver.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

A very creative twist in the story. I enjoy the humorous “cherry” at the top of the imaginative mind-grasping crescendo. It’s a little mind vacation for the person reading. Thanks, Charles, simple yet memorable.

    Very funny! Nicely done!

However, as a fatalist, I’m thinking he trips on his way to greet the deliver person, hits his head, and same result, just different means.
