The bus passenger’s foot was well groomed. Its toenails were shiny and clean, neatly trimmed. The foot was the color of coffee with lots of cream, with black curlicues ornamenting the top. The sandal looked like a sandal looks.
But the foot disgusted the woman on Facebook, who snapped a surreptitious picture of it. “My God, I’ve got to sit next to this? I’m changing my seat!”
No mention of smell, so it couldn’t be that. Just an intense aversion. To maleness? Whiteness? Sandals? Couldn’t say. But dozens commiserated with hostile levity.
And I think to myself, it’s a wonderful world.
Like this. It’s really amazing how people are irritated by the littlest things. And how social media has made that acceptable.
Thank you. It’s Orwell’s 1984, but Big Brother is us.
Profound and excellently written.
