She had scars. Just because they were hidden didn’t mean they weren’t there. It was surprising what a little makeup and a few accessories could do.
One scarf and the bruises where he’d choked her were gone. A pair of sunglasses and her swollen eye vanished. An expensive pair of gloves smoothed out the cuts and scrapes in the flesh, masking the fight she’d put up.
A dark red lipstick hid the cut on her lip, and chewing gum kept her mouth busy so no one would notice the swelling.
“Ma’am, please explain again how your husband fell down the stairs.”
