Class was over, and the first bell had just rung. A girl in the back row stood up, throwing her backpack over her shoulder. Hands in her pockets, she made her way among the desks.
Another girl got up from her desk as the other passed.
“Ouch.” The owner of the bag turned slightly.
For a brief moment, their eyes met. Behind one pair flashed thousands of emotions; memories tucked away in the darkest of corners accompanied by promises long dead, behind the other nothing but a flicker of annoyance.
“Sorry,” the bag owner muttered. Turning her head, she moved on.
