A Spoon Full Of…

June 17, 2023 7 Comments

By Brittany R. Johnson

He was back by the next morning, skinning and grinning as if nothing had happened.

But she knew he was unfaithful.

She plated the fried catfish and grits, adding a dash of hot sauce and sugar. She stopped short of throwing the steaming coffee into his genial face.

Instead she played ‘Who’s Sorry Now?’ She loved the irony. She was an ardent playwright, after all.

As the record began, she saw him pause with the spoon midway to his mouth and saw the uneasiness fade in his eyes.

Smiling and sashaying, she was satisfied that he thought he’d swallowed her wrath.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
