A Suitable Match

A Suitable Match

By Darren Weaver

She smiled at him when he sat next to her: a coy, inviting smile. A smile that acknowledged their shared status in this world. A smile that I could never coax from her. He smiled back.

A simple exchange, yet so full of meaning. Here were two people who didn’t have try, could afford to be relaxed, could simply enjoy this for what it was. He wasn’t getting nervous; she wasn’t brushing him off.

They both smiled to each other again as he stood up for his stop. My stop, too. I remained seated. I was going home with her tonight.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Ah, well…there goes another unrequited love affair. Well done!
