In 354 BC, while strolling the garden of Plato’s Academy, Aristotle experienced evidence that he believed sparked an idea.
At first, he attributed it to an apparition. It appeared, stood toe to toe with him, and was wrapped in a material unlike his himation. Raising an inquisitive eyebrow, he observed his reflection on what he assumed was a helmet. And when removed, a human face appeared and spoke, “There’s advanced life on other planets that will destroy Earth.”
It vanished.
Invigorated and struck by innovation, Aristotle expanded his treatise, championing the idea of extraterrestrial life and the possibility of interplanetary warfare.
