The woman wailed and writhed like a dying beast when they came for her, extinguishing any doubt. She had the devil in her, the portent of their misfortunes. Expendable. Peripheral. Crimes a woman must burn for.
She is spent, slumped naked and unashamed in the reluctant moonlight like she is from before the original sin. She contemplates her pockmarked flesh. Wonders what melting will feel like. It wouldn’t do to be afraid. They swarm to fear like frenzied scavengers.
I won’t even scream, she decides. Not a sound. Instead, she’ll lift her eyes to heaven and pray for their eternal souls.
Wow what a great piece well done x
Probably the best story I’ve read on here. Superb storytelling in miniature
Really well done, you can feel the emotion
The descriptive deliberations of a doomed woman–all in 101 words. Well done!
This made me sad, not the writing, which is excellent. Sad because of the truth of what many endured down through the ages. Reminds me of the Maid of Normendy, Joan of Arc. Well done…it evoked a visceral response from me.
This is very good indeed.
Phenomenal story telling. Love the poetic nature of this piece.
