All of Order

All of Order

By Owen Townend

I asked him what chaos was.

He didn’t hesitate. He just wrote on the window, drawing in the condensation, with his finger. He gestured for me to speak.

“A…” I vocalised.

He continued: writing B, C, D, and E…all on the same spot, all occupying the same space.

“The alphabet is one of the most orderly things in the world,” he explained as he passed V. “Now what is happening here?” he asked.

“A mess.”

He nodded. “And that’s chaos—all of order happening at once.”

“It’s just a scribble,” I said, “like something a child would make.”

He just laughed.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

A great description of chaos: “All of order happening at once.” Nice job.

I agree with Bobby Warner. It is a great way to put it. Because when you think about it. It’s not dead weight roaring around when there aren’t any rules or regulations. It’s each and every hidden true volcano impulses that is roaring and free to unleash it upon whatever; whoever. No one with the authority to put people in their places so that there could be balance. Thus, forcing the people to deal with self issues in a righteous manner. The right way. But when there’s no authority……. no parents! like a child!
    have to understand, common sense,
What would a child do from a lack thereof?
Pout, throw temper tantrums, begin to talk back, begin to throw things and eventually attempt to even run things. Thinking he/she could cry, get, do, or live however he/she want, any child. Chaos. But just imagine this as adults when the authorities suddenly take a step back into the shadows just to see at least for one year what could happen. If you’re thinking purgery, like the movie; you’re on the spot dead center, not even a professional dart player could be that accurate, nevermind my Ex girlfriend, if I had to mention her inaccurate ways, strangely we’ll all see truly how purgery could really be a blessing in my after-marriage, like after-life, get it? Going beyond the point. But in other words, the word you’re looking for would be chaotic. That’s exactly what it would be in the adult projector view. Chaotic. Because you will have enemies killing enemies, friends killing frienimies, and why not mention, ex girlfriends killing people like me. All possible outrages without that one and only necessary order of outrage of simply policing that would keep everyone as safe as they possibly can. One order that forces each and everyone basically to take their self order urges and shove it up their asses. Because at the end of the day, it will either be one order that keeps mostly all people alive or all orders that will abruptly kill us all. So I agree, chaos is…all orders happening.
