Always Together

March 17, 2024 6 Comments

By Rabab Zaidi

“Do you believe in rebirth?” I asked Marie.

We had just reiterated our undying love.

“Something like transmigration of souls, I think. I remember reading about it.”

“l promise to be with you in our every foray into this world.”

“l promise too.”

***

Sometime later, we are looking at our reflections in a lake. I can hear children say, “Look at that beautiful pair of swans—always together!”

We nod in agreement. Always together.

***

Sometime later, l happily say, “You make a beautiful toadstool.”

“So do you, my love.”

Does the outer covering matter when our souls are one? Always together.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I love how you use a few lines of dialogue to leap over time and establish character. Nice.

Cute story but all I could think of at the end was it’s a good thing they like each other. Otherwise, this would be a hellish nightmare!
