An Awakening View

An Awakening View

By Pete Perrine

As I stare out over the vastness of the Gulf, I see specs on the horizon, tiny blips lost in the haze. As the sun sets and darkness creeps in, the specs come to life, like fireflies in a summer yard; a city at sea illuminates, three lights here, four there, as far across the horizon as one can see. Flickering lights from a distance, these are ships lying at anchor, waiting for their turn to come into port. Some to offload their precious cargo, others to replenish their holds with the black gold destined for all corners of the world.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Soothingly atmospheric, though “specs” are spectacles as in ‘glasses’ from the opticians. Specks is what you were looking for unless this is more surreal than I realized.
