James sat on the street corner, leaning against a building. His black duffel bag held all his clothes, belongings, and a small pug named Bessie. The landlord said she’d kick him out unless he got rid of that dog. There wasn’t enough time to find a new house, and here he was. He’d given his sandwich to Bessie, and he gazed longingly at the cafe across the street.
People sitting outside gawked.
“That’s no way to treat a living thing,” a woman whispered to her lawyer husband. “That poor dog must have fleas; those people shouldn’t have pets.”
Little she knew.
Very nice. In this 101 word format it is difficult to address important issues. You’ve done so beautifully. Kudos
Thank you Simon, I appreciate it!
A touching story of loyalty–and folks who just don’t understand. Great story!
Thank you very much, Bobby!
Yes. There’s so much in front of us that we simply don’t — or won’t — see.
Anyone who doesn’t like dogs, can’t be human, right? I enjoyed this story.
Agreed!
We never know what anyone’s circumstances are. A nice painting of snap judgments, meanness and entitlement of observers. Thank you!
Thank you everybody who commented. I greatly appreciate it!
