Are You Crying?

December 2, 2021 10 Comments

By Bob Gielow

“Dad, are you crying?”

I am, but I’d rather not explain why to my observant daughter, catching our breath here at Overlook Point.

I’d rather not talk about that August night in ‘86, with Angie up here and me down on one knee. I’d rather not recall Angie’s slight step away, or her surprised and wary “Oh!” Her mouth didn’t need to say no, because her eyes were already communicating her sad response.

My ten-year-old knows that ring, twisting it around on her mother’s finger. I love my wife, my daughter’s mother, but she is not my first, my Angie.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
