Awards Night

December 14, 2024 7 Comments

By Tom Baldwin

Aileen kicked off her shoes, unfastened her bra, and collapsed on the sofa, relieved to be home alone at last.

The company awards dinner had been a personal triumph for her. She hadn’t won anything, not that she had expected to, but had gotten through the evening without making a fool of herself, inadvertently insulting anyone, or misreading a situation.

Yes, it had been a triumph. Another day, another social event navigated without, she hoped, anyone suspecting the exhausting effort it took for her to fit in.

She poured a glass of wine and mentally awarded herself a gold star.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Too often we never know what lies below people’s outer shell.
