Mr. Jensen checked his calendar twice. He’d written ‘Back to School Night for Parents’ in red ink.
He’d promised himself he’d make it this year. He arrived in a suit and sat at the front. His attention focused on the young teacher.
When the presentation ended, he lingered.
“Which child is yours?” she asked.
Mr. Jensen beamed. “Brian.”
She frowned. “I don’t have a Brian this year. What grade is he in?”
Mr. Jensen straightened his tie. “Brian Toy. Eighth grade. He’s graduating this year.”
Her eyes lit up. “I remember Brian. He skipped a grade. Graduated with honors last year.”
