“Grampa, I wrecked the car.”
“Are you hurt?” Markus held his breath, waiting for the answer.
“No, but Mom’s car is really messed up.” The distress in his grandson’s voice carried through the phone.
Arriving on the scene to find a bruised and frightened teenager, Markus reassured himself the boy wasn’t hurt. He learned speed was a factor in the crash once he spoke to the police, but the outcome could have been far worse.
“Will you tell Mom what happened for me?” Corey pleaded.
Markus shook his head no. “This one is on you, Bud, but I got your back.”
